Last weekend's concerts in Tokyo, Part 2

In this blog (Part 2) we report in Japanese and English on concerts held in Tokyo the last weekend.

 

 


«March 26th, Sat: Young musicians in “Spring Festival in Tokyo”»

 

On March 26th, from 19:00 PM, “Spring Festival in Tokyo: Brahms's String Sextet, The finest chamber music played by brilliant young musicians” took place in “Tokyo Bunka Kaikan” in Tokyo (Ueno). Gen Yokosaka, 24-year-old cellist, played with Kota Nagahara, Tatsuo Nishie (Violin), Yasuhiro Suzuki, Ryo Oshima (Viola) and Shohei Uwamori (Cello). Young musicians, they played Brahms' String Sextet No.1 and No.2 that the composer wrote at young age.

For the encore the six musicians played an energetic rendition of Brahms' Hungarian Dance no.5 for Tohoku.

«March 26th, Sat: Yu Kosuge, Beethoven's Piano concerto No.4»

 

On March 26th, from 15:00 PM, Gunma Symphony Orchestra had their concert in Sumida Triphony Hall in Tokyo (near the National Sumo Hall of Ryogoku). At the beginning of the concert the orchestra played J.S. Bach “Air on the G string” for Tohoku, and the musicians and the public offered a moment of silence for the victims of the earthquake.

 

Young pianist Yu Kosuge played as soloist Beethoven's Piano concerto No.4, and the orchestra then played Brahms' Symphony No.2

 

Kosuge, for her encore played Shumann's “The Poet speaks” from “Scenes from Childhood”.
